3,500 Student Athletes from Mindanao’s State Universities, College to Compete in Annual Meet in Zamboanga

SOME 3,500 students and student athletes from schools belonging the Mindanao Association of State Colleges and Universities Froundation (MASCUF) will compete for sports, literary and cultural honors in the MASCUF Games to be held in Zamboanga City on January 28 – February 1.

Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST), and Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) will co- host the annual event. Athletic games will be played at the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.

“The MASCUF Games is an annual inter-collegiate sport, literary and cultural competition among State colleges and universities. WMSU being the premier state university in Western Mindanao has been tasked to spearhead this school year’s prestigious event,” said Danilo Corteza, dean of WMSU’s College of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (CPERS).

The event is also credited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The Game’s theme is “One Voice, One Dream: The MASCUF for Peace.” It is held to promote the culture of peace through the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, fair play and rsepect for others, Corteza said.

It also serves as an elimination to select the best student athletes and teams to represent Mindnao in the annual staging of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), Corteza added. (Rey-Luis Banagudos/PAO-WMSU).
