DOH Secretary Inspires WMSU Nurse Hopefuls

Department of Health Secretary, Dr. Enrique T. Ona, was the guest speaker during the third batch of the 66th Commencement Exercises held at the Dr. Juanito Bruno Gymnasium last April 11.

Dr. Ona explicated to the fresh graduates the essential role of nurses in the health force and that the CN Batch 2011 must be proud of the education that WMSU has imbued upon them over the years in the university.

“The Western Mindanao State University is truly an institution for the education of the people, spreading over the Zamboanga Peninsula you brought your campuses nearer to the people,” Dr. Ona testified during his Commencement speech. “The College of Nursing has produced professionals now manning critical positions in our hospitals and different facilities abroad,” he further praised the College of Nursing of the university. Following the speech, WMSU President-Dr. Grace J. Rebollos awarded a Plaque of Appreciation to the Health Secretary.

“A daughter of a tricycle driver is now a Nursing graduate,” exclaimed Judith C. Gaan, B.S. Nursing Cum Laude as she addressed this year’s College of Nursing (CN) graduates. Gaan was referring to herself as she delivered her speech to the nurse hopefuls.

In total, CN 2011 Batch Exercitus Vigoratus yielded fourteen Cum Laude, with Judith C. Gaan graduating as the top of the Nursing class. There is a total of 965 graduates, in which there were 938 Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates, 9 graduates of the Master in Nursing degree and 21 who received the Professional Master in Nursing Certifcate.
