A two-day Job Fair was held jointly by the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) through its Alumni Affairs and Placement Office (AAPO) represented by its Director Dr. Abelardo S. Atilano and the City government of Zamboanga represented by PESO Manager Francisco Barredo on February 22 and 23 at the Social Development Center, Sta. Barbara, Zamboanga City from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M..
The occasion was set apart of the series of pre-centennial activities of WMSU as it celebrates its Centennial Day on July 18, 2006 while the City government of Zamboanga marked its component of its week-long commemoration of the Dia de Zambonaga.
Job Fairs have been on one of the priority of both the city government of Zamboanga under the administration of Mayor Celso L. Lobregat and the Western Mindanao State University under the leadership of Dr. Eldigario D. Gonzales as its President for poverty alleviation through employment opportunities.
Aside from the two lead agencies which conducted the job fair participated by twenty recruitment agencies, other government entities have supported this endeavor to include the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), National Statistics Office (NSO), Office of Muslim Affairs (OMA), Department of Foreign Affair (DFA), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Zamboanga Economic Zone (ECOZONE), and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
Through the holding of Job Fairs by Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) in Local Government Unit (LGUs) and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), job hopefuls have been given opportunities for employment as it brings together in one venue recruitment agencies and job seekers (A.S.ATILANO, WMSU AAPO/PESO)
