Mindanao Independence in WMSU Forum on Saturday

A ROUND-TABLE forum on the so-called Mindanao independence movement will be held at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) tomorrow, Saturday, October 1.

The academic exercise on the issue will feature four resource speakers, namely Atty. Pantaleon Bebot Alvarez, former secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communication; Michael Filoteo, WMSU Student Regent, who will present the yourth perspective; Nung Ajihil, Zamboanga Times columnist, for the Muslim perspective; and Sitti Djalla Turabin-Hataman, for the Muslim Women’s perspective.

WMSU Vice President for Corporate Affairs Prof. Clemencio Bascar said the forum will be open to the public. It will be held at the Guidance Center Conference Room, from 1:00 to 5:30 PM.

He said the symposium is intended to gather feedback from the public on the issue of independence for Mindanao. Amid the current political crises, several political and other leaders in Southern Philippines have recently spoken in favor of the sentiment long-held by some of the region’s inhabitants.
