Photo Contest on Idigenous Folks Set by WMSU

A PHOTO competition-cum-exhibit to mark and celebrate October as “Indigenous People’s Month” will be held by the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) on October 15-17in the university campus.

Project Coordinator John Magno said any interested person may submit as many as threes photos entries for competition. The photographs should interpret the celebration theme of “Katutubo: Noon at Ngayon/Perspective of Looking at the Old and the New”. Only pictures taken on film are eligible, and the negative should be attached to the entries.

The pictures’ subjects may include people, dress/documentation, architecture, technology, weapons, rituals and practices, craft, dance, games/hobbies, or musical instruments, Magno further said. Ethnic groups too be covered are Iranun, Subanun, Yakan, Sama Dilaya, Sama Dilaot (Badjao), Tausug, Jama Mapun, and other ethnic groups in the region.

Entries should color prints 8” x 10” in size. The competition is open to all individuals or groups, schools, organizations and agencies. Prizes are: 1 st – P10,000; 2 nd – P 5,000; and 3 rd – P4, 500.

Deadline for submission of entries is 5:00 PM., October 10 to the Special Projects Unit, Corporate Affairs Office, 3 rd Floor, research Building, WMSU, normal road, Baliwasan, Zamboanga City. More information may be obtained from the same office. (Rey-Luis Banagudos/PAO-WMSU )
