Different programs have already been lined up for the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace from November 25 to December 1, 2010.
With the theme “Responsive and Responsible Governance: Key to Peace, Development, and Sustainability” a host of activities will be held by the Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ).
Prior to the commencement of the week of peace on November 25, the following are the lined events: November 6 – Elementary Administrators’ Peace Education Orientation at the Marcian Business Center; November 15 to 27 – Muñecas de Zamboanga: An Exhibition of History, Culture and Peace at the Gallery of the Peninsula and Archipelago, Ateneo de Zamboanga University; November 16 – Alliance of Peace Governments: Mindanao Youth Peace Forum at the CDCH, Ateneo de Zamboanga University (spearheaded by El Consejo Atenista and WMSU-University Student Council); and on November 24 – Children Solidarity Exchange at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
On November 25, the peace week celebration begins with a Grand Opening Peace Parade at 6:00 in the morning from Pettit Barracks to the DJFME Sports Complex (Granstand).
The series of events for the peace week are as follows: On November 27 – Historical Journey: Dua’a Salamat, 5th National Sama-Badjao Movement Anniversary at Arena Blanco Elementary School; November 28 – Peace Weaver Awards Night at the Garden Orchid Hotel; November 29 – Unveiling of Peace Monument at Barangay Sta. Maria 7:00am, Launching of PGM Peace and Governance at WMSU 9:30am, and Peace Forum: Mindanao Peace Agenda at Crystal Ballroom, Grand Astoria Hotel 4:00pm; November 30 to December 1 Zamboanga-Basilan Integrated Development Alliance (ZABIDA) Regional Conference at Marcian Garden Hotel; December 1 – Peace Technology Massive Video Conference (Manila-Zamboanga) at WMSU Gym 8:00am, and Torch Parade and Music Peace Festival from the Granstand to Paseo del Mar 4:00pm.
After the week-long celebration, PAZ will still host series of events until December 12, to wit: On December 3 – International Day of Disability; December 4 – PAZSalamat: Solidarity Thanksgiving among the Youth Volunteers/Young Peace Weaver Awards at WMSU Gym; December 10 – International Human Rights Day at the Commission on Human Rights Regional Office IX; and finally on December 12 – International Day Against Child Trafficking at WMSU.
“While every citizen must participate actively in these processes as active supporters, the weight and bulk of responsibility depends on governance, that is, responsive and responsible governance,” the joint statement of the Bishops-Ulama Conference on the Mindanao Week of Peace.
