USC unites students thru recreational activities on Palaro ‘13 week
September 4, 2013

As a way of uniting students, getting them involved in recreational activities and hindering them from mischief, the University Student Council initiated a set of fun-packed activities for the students of Western Mindanao State University in sync with the Palaro 2013.

Administered by the USC President Hon. Aldrin B. Abdurahim, the organization set up a series of daily activities for the students to participate in. On Monday, September 2, a Treasure Hunting activity was held at the grounds of Campus A. Aside from it, they have also conducted the Juan for All, All for Juan, Campus Radio, Slogan-Making Contest, the Acoustic elimination round and the Crimson Gay Top Model.

On Tuesday, September 3, a skateboarding competition was organized where participants exhibited their skateboarding stunts in the WMSU Covered Court. A series of parlor games dubbed as “Laro ni Juan” was also arranged by the USC. By afternoon, the “Kalokalike” WMSU edition was staged after the Battle of the Bands.

Abdurahim, a dynamic member of the non-government organization Peace Advocates of Zamboanga, envisions leading the students to be more engaged in activities that could push them to be more united in promoting peace starting from the University to the community.

“The youth can directly build harmonious relationships with one another through various sports activities that may eventually promote peace and unity. Through sports, the youth uses their skills, competencies and expertise to generate right attitude in dealing with different types of people to include one’s opponent, allies and supporters.” Abdurahim added.

He further added that through the results of the activities that the organization has conducted, it can provide a strong outcome of unifying the people and could transform the students to be agents of peace.

A number of other talent exposition and fun activities are yet to be conducted by the USC in the following days before Palaro ends. These are the Amazing Race, Videoke King & Queen, A Day with SPED, Pinoy Henyo (Kambal Edition), Battle of the Governors, Battle of the Comedians, Super Sireyna 2013, Master Chef, Minute to Win It, Documentary Clip Contest, and the Grand Concert featuring SMART Artists to finally close the week of fun, sports and merriment.
