“Be willing to walk an extra mile.”
This was Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena’s strong statement during the Training on Duties, Rights and Privileges of the New WMSU Visiting Lecturers on Wednesday, July 23 at the Grand Astoria Hotel, this city.
About 70 Visiting Lecturers who have been installed this semester were the participants to the training.
University President, Dr. Milabel Enriquez-Ho inspired the new instructors as she arrived, saying “I came because I’d like to make you feel that you are important and you are welcome in WMSU.” The lady president further stated that “Commitment is not raising your right hand and saying oaths or promises to the university. Commitment is between you and yourself.”
Several officials from the university discussed vital topics to equip the instructors with additional knowledge of their craft and the protocols to follow now that they are already absorbed in the academe.
Ms. Ma. Teresita J. Rodriguez (Human Resource Management Officer) articulated the HRMO functions and the requirements to comply; Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena (VPAA) talked on dress code and codes of behavior; Ms. Pilar S. Encarnado discussed how to comply with the registrar-related requirements; Atty. Eduardo F. Sanson (College of Law Dean) lectured on the law on the liability of teachers in the care and custody of students; Dr. Milagros C. Tan (Distance Education and Open University System Director) talked on the intricacies of the syllabus infusing outcomes-based education; Engr. Elsa Saavedra (Curriculum Development Director), on the other hand, showed the new VLs how IDPs are filled up and further discussed the WMSU grading system. Director for Administration, Dr. Joselito D. Madroñal’s topic was centered on professionalism and work ethics. Prof. Simeona L. Damin, a College of Teacher Education faculty member lectured on the qualities of an effective teacher and innovative teaching strategies.
The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs under Dr. Ochotorena spearheaded the seminar with the Center for Continuing Education under Dr. Raquel Tomasa R. Ho and Dr. Mario R. Obra Jr. as the partner organizers. (Mandy Dalugdug – PAO, WMSU)
