WMSU Celebrates Arts Fest

Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Office of the President-Office of Culture and the Arts, together with, Association of Creative & Performing Artists of Zamboanga, Inc., Culture of Arts and History Council of Zamboanga laid out this year’s celebration of the National Arts Month. The festivities formally opened last February 3 at the university’s open stage.

Participants donned in traditional costumes, dancing to the rich sounds of kulintang, paraded in the major streets of Zamboanga City signaling the start of the National Arts Month 2012. Different schools from all levels of the city showcased a diversity of colors, shapes and music, reverberating through the city streets.

The month-long celebration features events such as the Arts Camp, in which workshops on painting and dance-theater are offered to interested individuals. The camp will begin on February 17 until February 19. Events to look forward to are the Drum and Lyre Group and Drum and Bugle Competition on February 2; MetroBank-sponsored Lecture Art Series on February 10; Gulicinas De Zamboanga Demonstration (native delicacies food demonstration) on February 21; Declamacion and Oratorio on February 24; Cultural Show/Dance Competition and Closing and Awarding Ceremonies on February 29.

The much-awaited celebration is spearheaded by the WMSU-Office of Culture and the Arts under the leadership of its Director-Dr. Roberto B. Torres. (Ekeena O. Lim, PAO-WMSU)
