WMSU Celebrates National Arts Month

The Office of the Culture and the Arts of Western Mindanao State University celebrates the National Arts Month from February 4-27, 2004 at the Dr. Juanito Bruno Gymnasium.

The National Arts Month celebration is anchored on the theme “Sining Pinoy: Makilahok sa Malikhaing Sambayanan” will cover many activities related to culture and the arts.

Last Wednesday, February 4, 2004, was the opening ceremony of the celebration of National Arts Month at the campus open stage. Prof. Gloria Villardo, the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) – Director of the Office of the President – Office of the Culture and Ats opened the cermony. During the opening program, the host and the audience welcomed the guest speaker Mrs. Emma Sebastian, the Music and Arts Supervisor of the Division o f City Schools, this city. She was the keynote speaker for that occasion. Mrs. Olga Belisario, the Moderator of the University Guild, on the other hand, read the schedule of activities.

On of the highlights of the activities for the month was the staging of the play entitled “Para Walang Unyon” of the threatre guild, which was scheduled on February 6, 7, 20 and 21. A group from the National Commission on Cultre and the Arts is expected to arrie on February 20 to critic the play. The NCCA is funding the project.

From February 14-18, the Sentido Arts Group will have its Visual Exhibit at the gymnasium. On February 17, there will be a forum on “Cultural Research” at the Office of the President’s Lobby and on February 18, a lecture on Visual Arts and Music will be held at the Abitona Conference Room. “Literary and Theatre” will be held also at the same venue on February 19. The forum on “Historical and Political Issuses on the Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo” will be held on February 20 at the Guidance Conference Room. On February 24, a contest for Vocal Solo, Vocal Duet and Kundiman will be held at the gymnasium and on February 25, there will be a Literary Musical Contest, Poetry Reading and Talumpati. On February 27, the Awarding and Closing Program of the Arts Month will officially close the month-long celebration. (Patty Mae Y.
