“We mean business.” Thus declared Faculty Union President Atty. Grace Tillah-Alasco in her opening remarks as the WMSU Faculty Union and its members came together for its scheduled General Assembly in a stripped-down gathering last July 22 at the Dr. Juanito Bruno Gymnasium. What it lacked in stunning decor and embellishment it made-up for in its no nonsense, matter-of-fact ambience befitting a straightforward congregation of the finest minds this side of Western Mindanao. The affair featured the induction of new sets of Faculty Club Officers of the different colleges and the Financial and President’s Report of the past year.
The event was also an occasion for the 502-strong WMSU Faculty to convey their many grievances and opinions. The Financial and President’s Report stated the many accomplishments by the Faculty Union Officers and the Faculty Regent e.g. the initiation of the sure release of the P10,000.00 Collective Negotiation Agreement (CNA) bonus to all employees, representation of the Faculty Union culminating in Board Resolution No. 145, S. 2011 on Flow Chart with timelines on prompt and early release of salaries, honorarium, overload and other emoluments of faculty and the amount of 493,426.23PHP procured through the contributions of all WMSU Faculty.
The General Assembly ended with presentations from four life and health care insurance companies:
PRUDENTIAL GUARANTEE and ASSURANCE, INC., MEDNET Life Health Care; Insular Life; and Malayan Insurance. The insurance companies were invited to give their aforementioned presentations for the purpose of entering into negotiations with the Faculty Union on a contract for Life and Health Care Plan to be integrated in the CNA.
