A new generation of writers and artists has taken up a refresher on the basics of journalism during the three-day Campus Journalism Seminar-Workshop at the Conference Room, Executive Building, Western Mindanao State University.

The said seminar was attended by some 40 members of the Editorial Board and Staff of the University Digest headed by the Editor-in-Chief Vanessa May H. Alfaro and Adviser Dr. Lea U. Laput.

On the first day, Mr. Michael Vincent D. Cajulao of the Philippine Information Agency talked on news writing, followed by Mr. Hader Glang, the Associate Editor of Zamboanga Today on editorial writing and Mr. Dante Corteza on feature/essay writing.

Subsequently, on the second day, Mr. Marlon Maravilla, a former Digest cartoonist discussed editorial cartooning, while Mr. Eliezer Estrecho, formerly the head lay-out of Digest tackled lay-outing, and Ms. Donafel Chua, Digest head photojournalist lectured on photojournalism.

Finally, on the third day, there was an added spice in the seminar as Ms. Evangelyn Basilio-Olandag of the National Youth Commission gave meaningful insights as she embarked on team-building.

Anchored on the theme “Fostering a New Breed of Campus Journalists” said seminar-workshop hoped to enhance the know-how of the members of the Digest, especially the newbies.

The University Digest is the official student publication of WMSU. (Almar E. Villanueva)
