WMSU Jambangan Cultural Dance Troupe: Philippine Representative to the BIMP-EAGA Tourism Mart and Conference
September 30, 2003

The WMSU Jambangan Cultural Dance Troupe is back from a successful cultural presentation as the Philippine Representative to the BIMP-EAGA Tourism Mart & Conference held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from September 18-21, 2003. They performed a variety of dances from Mindanao, and unique to the Philippine delegation, was their performance of Chavacano dances. The 15-man troupe had Mr. Roberto Bondoc Jr. as Artistic Director and Ms. Ma. Blancaflor Rivera as the choreographer. During the final night where all countries (Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines) performed, it was only the Philippine Delegation, the WMSU Jambangan Dance Troupe, which got a standing ovation from the Malaysian dignitaries and audience.

Dr. Eldigario D. Gonzales, WMSU President and the rest of the WMSU community congratulated the Jambangan Cultural Dance Troupe for this rare performance and received praises from foreign dignitaries in Malaysia. The pride and honor was not only for the Western Mindanao State University but for Zamboanga City and Region 9 as well. (Prof. Alicia Lourdes M. Soriano / Prof. Ali T. Yacub, Public Affairs Office)
