WMSU Jambangan Cultural Dance Troupe To Participate in the Sabah International Folklore Festival 2004

Upon invitation to the SABAH Cultural Board, the WMSU Jambangan Cultural Dance Troupe, will be participating in the 2nd Edition of the SABAH INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL 2004 to be held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia scheduled from September 4-12, 2004. The multi-awarded dance troupe will serve as ambassadors of goodwil not only for the university, Zamboanga City and Region IX, but also for the Philippines as a whole.

This festival is “to provide cultural international exchange and folklore presentation to the community of Malaysia.” The 28-member delegation is ready to perform 5 to 10 minutes throughout the Festival, as required by organizers. However, the highlight would be a 12- minute performance of the award-winning repertoire, the “Pegkawin”, a showcase of courtship practices and the wedding celebration of the Yakans, which won the troupe the First Prize, thus declaring them the CHAMPION of the 5th Mindanao Indigenous Dance Festival during he Kadayawan Festival in Davao City in August 2003.
