WMSU Palaro ’05 Kicks Off Sunday

WMSU Palaro ’05 will kick off tomorrow afternoon with an athletic parade around the city followed by opening ceremonies at the Joaquin Enriquez Jr. Memorial Sports Complex (JEMSC).

Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Public Affairs Office Director Prof. Ali T. Yacub said the annual weeklong sportsfest will be participated in by the different colleges and departments of the university. The event aims to develop athletic excellence, physical fitness, positive social values, camaraderie, and cultural skills among the participants, he said.

The Palaro will be preceded with the contest for and selection of Mr. and Miss WMSU in a pageant to be held tonight at the university gymnasium.

Among the special games and contests of the Palaro are: Sept. 5 – mountain bike race and cheerdance competition; Sept. 6 – essay-writing, on the spot painting, body-building and dance sport contests; Sept. 8 – poster-making and musical contests; Sept. 9 – debate. (Rey-Luis Banagudos, PAO-WMSU)
