Officials, personnel and students of the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) have been mobilized by the the university president to fully participate in the various activities in celebration of the Week of Peace 2005, which starts on Thursday, Nov. 24.
In a directive, WMSU President Dr. Eldigario Gonzales has enjoined the university community’s participation in the opening day parade, peace festival, tree planting and atorch parade. These are some of the events that will be a part of week long celebration, which is spearheaded by Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) and the Inter-Religious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRMSP).
In WMSU, the participation is being coordinated by its Center For Peace and Development, headed by Vice- president for Research, Extension,and Development Dr. Grace Rebollos, (Office tel.no.993-0949).
Dr. Gonzales said: “We enjoin the university community to extend full solidarity to he citywide activities that are spearheaded by (IRMSP).We enjoin the cooperation of each college.”
Dr. Gonzales noted that this year’s theme “The Youth: Our hope for Peace” is especially concerned with and relevant to students.
PAZ President Fr. Anghel Calvo said some 20,000 students, teachers, soldiers, government employees, urban poor, PWDs, and many others are expected to join in the opening day parade on Thursday morning.
Mayor Celso Lobregat and Archbishop Carmelo Morelos were invited to grace the opening day program at the Joaquin Enriquez Jr. Memorial Sports Complex. The program will follow the parade, which starts at 7:00 A.M. at the Zamboanga East Central Elementary School. (Rey Luis Banagudos/PAO-WMSU)
