WMSU Prez To Be Named Honorary Datu By Sulu Paramount Sultan

TWO honorary datus and the Grand Mufti will be formally installed by Sulu and North Borneo Paramount Sultan Ibrahim Bahjin Shakirulla II in a formal ceremony and testimonial dinner to be held at Amil’s Tower on April 16.

Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) president Dr. Eldigario Gonzales will be one of the two honorary datus to be so honored, along with retired WMSU professor and Zamboanga Today columnist Emmanuel Mangubat, Prime Minister Datu Albi Julkarnain of the sultanate said.

Ustadz Ibrahim Ghazali will also be installed as the Grand Mufti of the sultanate, he disclosed.

In the same occasion, WMSU Public Affairs Offie Director Prof. Ali T. Yacub will be formally announced by the Paramount Sultan as his Royal Adviser on Special Events and Ceremonies, with the rank of datu.

The prime minister said Dr. Gonzales will receive the honorary datu honors due to his role as president of the Movement for the Restoration of the Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo. Mangubat is a leading light and advocate of the movement.

The members of the Ruma Bicharaa and sultanate’s Cabinet will also receive their appointments during the same affair, Datu Julkarnain added.

The Ruma Bichara, which acts as the advisory council, will also hold its first assembly on the morning of the same day at Amil’s Tower.

Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat has been invited to join in the occasion and to give an inspirational talk, he said.

Sultan Shakirullah II was installed as paramount sultan last Friday 13 in Jolo, Sulu. (Rey-Luis Banagudos – PAO, WMSU)
