WMSU student receives leadership award

Manuelito C. Siason, AB English student of WMSU-College of Communications and Humanities was given the Student Leadership Excellence Award by the Institute for Youth Development Affairs of the Philippines.

Manuelito C. Siason, AB English student of WMSU-College of Communications and Humanities was given the Student Leadership Excellence Award by the Institute for Youth Development Affairs of the Philippines.

Manuelito C. Siason, a senior AB English student of the College of Communications and Humanities, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), this city, was given the Student Leadership Excellence Award by the Institute for Youth Development Affairs of the Philippines on March 2, 2013 in Butuan City.

The citation was awarded in recognition of Siason’s exemplary performance as president of the WMSU Youth Peace Mediators UNESCO Club (WYPMUC). A student organization, WYPMUC organized in 2010 by the WMSU – Center for Peace and Development through its director, Dr. Marcelina G. Carpizo. The organization is also accredited by UNESCO Philippines.

WYPMUC aims to promote peace, harmony and understanding among students in the University who are Muslims, Christians and Indigenous Peoples. Some of its major activities are participation in the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace every end of the year, the conduct of trainings and seminars on inter-cultural and interreligious dialogue as well, and the conduct of peace symposia, among others.

Although composed mainly of students from WMSU, the organization also involves students from other schools in the city in its activities. (WMSU PRESS RELEASE)
