WMSU’s 104th Foundation Anniversary Set for July 23

A LUNCHEON program to launch the “Search for the Outstanding Employee of the Year” will be the climax of the 104th foundation anniversary of the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) on July 23.

One of the top 10 state university today, WMSU was started in 1904 at its present site by the United States colonial government as a secondary school to train school teachers.

Public Affairs Office Director Prof. Ali T. Yacub said the anniversary celebration will kick off on July 21 with the opening of exhibits by different colleges. The booths will be located in the Social Hall, where the ribbon-cutting will be held at 9:00 A.M. of the opening day.

The university band will stage a concert on July 22 at 4:00 P.M. at the open stage in the campus. Student groups will also participate in the musical event, Prof. Yacub said.

Anniversary day on July 23 will start with a Eucharistic celebration in the Dr. Juanito Bruno gymnasium at 7:30 A.M. At 9:00 A.M., the college with their respective streamers and other displays will stage a motorcade around the city.

While the motorcade is ongoing, an entertainment show will unreel at the gymnasium, spearheaded by the Office of Culture and the Arts (OCTA) under Dr. Roberto Torres. The colleges will contribute numbers to the show.

At 11:00A.M., WMSU President Dr. Grace Rebollos will meet the local media in a “kapihan.” The interview shall be held at the conference room of the Executive Building, Prof. Yacub said.

The noontime program launching the search for the outstanding employee, whose awarding is slated for next year, will cap the celebration. Personnel and guests will partake of lunch as the program ends. (Ray-Luis Banagudos, PAO/WMSU)
