Zamboanga City contingent to the Batang Pinoy 2012 Mindanao Leg is the over-all champion in the different sports event held in Dapitan City last November 7 to 10.

The Zamboanga delegates garnered a total of 42 golds, 27 silvers and 25 bronzes surpassing Davao City with 40 gold medals, 27 silvers and 14 bronzes. Moreover, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) -Integrated Laboratory School High School Department delegates did well with 10 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes.

With a report from the High School Department OIC-Principal, Mr. Joel C. Macasinag, WMSU representative, Vyanka Nicole Macaso fared well in the Swimming category. The said student athlete bagged golds for 200 1M, 400 1M, 200 fly, 200 free, 4×50 medley relay and silver for 200 breast.

Other remarkable students were Abdulqoahar Allian winning golds for Tennis Double and Team Event categories and a bronze medal for Tennis Single category; Al-Nafih Dahamban earning gold for Tennis Team event category and a bronze for Tennis Double category; and Carlo Silva winning 2 golds for Karatedo Kata and Kumite categories and silver for Team Kata category.

Zamboanga City holds the largest number of athletes during the said sports meet dominating the Karatedo, Athletics and lawn tennis events. (Ekeena O. Lim, WMSU – Public Affairs Office)
