WMSU Computer Engineering (CpE) students were hailed as champions during the 3rd Regional Computer Engineering Challenge organized by the Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (ICpEP). The event was held last September 12-14, 2018 at the Jose Rizal Memorial State University, Dipolog City.
The WMSU team vested other participants from other higher education institutions (HEIs) in region 9 in the quiz bowl category for the second consecutive year. The team is consisting of 4th year CpE students namely Sitti Shana J. Maldisa, Alvera D. Principe and Lemuel S. Bigay with Engr. Marinella T. Tose as coach. The team under the tutelage of Engr. Arvin Evangelista and participated by Lemuel S. Bigay and Wrandell D. Fidel bagged the 2nd place in the Logic Circuits Design.
The 3rd Regional Computer Challenge directed to enhancing the competencies of computer engineering students through various competitions. The challenge included an array of competitions, not just battle of the brains, but also hardware and software skills contests. It anchored on the theme “Enhancing Computer Engineers’ Capability towards Fourth Industrial Revolution and Technology Business Incubation”.
Faculty members from the CpE department also participated in the 1st ICpEP Regional Convention held in the same venue where they had seminars on the latest trends in computer engineering and workshops on PF Sense, Firebase Technology, Tech Talks on Data and Internet of Things (IoT).
The quiz bowl team will represent Region-IX in the national challenge which will be held on November 26-29, 2018 in Baguio City. (Liezel M. Parreño, WMSU PAO)
