Student proponents of the feasibility project Jacksmeat were awarded 1st place in the recently concluded Pitching Session: Startups for Halal by the Department of Trade and Industry- IX.

Jacksmeat is a meat substitute made from the seeds of jackfruit or langka, a project presented by three (3) fourth year BS Industrial Engineering (BS IE) students, namely: Antonette Y. Cañete, Deborah Roxanne G. Saavedra and Kayzelyn A. Reyes. The three students were also awarded the session’s best pitchers.

The competition was held at the Palacio del Sur, Marcian Hotel on October 9, 2018. It was well-participated by 12 teams coming from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay.

Two other teams from WMSU were recognized during the competition: Halal Philinvest of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) in the 2nd place, and Pulaywood also from the IE Department in the 3rd place.

The students were accompanied by the IE department head, Engr. Aylene R. Ingkoh, and trainers/advisers: Engr. Ryann Castillo, Engr. Jocelyn P. Castillo and Engr. Ivy L. Francisco. (Engr. Ivy L. Francisco, College of Engineering)
