The 30th National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) commenced with a stirring address from Atty. Alexis C. De Lima, Assistant Regional Director of the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Region IX, during today’s flag-raising ceremony at Western Mindanao State University (WMSU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech, Atty. De Lima expressed deep gratitude for the invitation, underscoring the significance of the university’s role in this annual observance. “This week is not just a reminder of the challenges we face but also an opportunity to galvanize our efforts, renew our commitments, and strengthen our resolve in the fight against criminality,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that crime prevention is a shared responsibility, extending far beyond the walls of law enforcement agencies. “As they say, the concern of peace and order is not the sole business of the PNP and other law enforcement agencies; it is our shared responsibility. We at NAPOLCOM believe that crime is a societal issue that requires a collective response,” Atty. De Lima added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the crucial role of educational institutions, Atty. De Lima recognized WMSU as a “bastion of knowledge and innovation” that plays a pivotal part in shaping future leaders, thinkers, and citizens who will uphold the moral and ethical fabric of society. He noted that the theme for this year’s NCPW celebration, “Kabataan tara na, sa crime prevention kaisa ka!” resonates deeply with WMSU\u2019s mission to produce world-class professionals committed to sustainable development and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atty. De Lima commended WMSU’s College of Criminal Justice Education for its well-designed curricula that integrate principles of good governance, human rights, and civic responsibility. He acknowledged the college’s role in producing graduates who are not only skilled in crime prevention but also deeply committed to justice and societal well-being. “Your institution plays a vital role in shaping the minds and values of the youth… Education is not just about imparting knowledge; it is about molding character and instilling a sense of duty towards the nation,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on the evolving challenges in maintaining peace and order, Atty. De Lima stressed the growing need for well-trained, principled police officers. He praised WMSU for consistently providing the Philippine National Police (PNP) with graduates who exemplify integrity and service. “We look to institutions like WMSU to continue providing the PNP with the next generation of leaders who will help us in our pursuit of a safer, more secure Zamboanga Peninsula,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the week-long NCPW activities unfold, Atty. De Lima called on the academic community and all sectors of society to continue their active participation in crime prevention efforts. “Let us work together to create a culture of vigilance, where the pursuit of knowledge goes hand in hand with the pursuit of justice,” he urged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony concluded with a message of hope and collaboration. “Together, with our law enforcement agencies like the PNP and AFP and other members of the communities, we can build a future where justice prevails, where communities are safe and where the rule of law is upheld by every citizen,” Atty. De Lima affirmed, expressing his gratitude for the invitation and wishing everyone a pleasant day ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
