The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) underwent the final evaluation of its Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) and Micro-Credential Programs on November 4, 2026, at the Dr. Juanito A. Bruno Gymnasium, covering seven academic programs to assess their compliance with higher education standards and the quality of their implementation.

The evaluation brought together onsite and online evaluators and representatives from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), university officials, deans, faculty members, and other stakeholders.

The onsite evaluation team included Dr. Bashiruddin A. Ajihil, Technical Panel member of CHED-ETEEAP; Dr. Carlos C. Lolo, evaluator of the CHED Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT); Engr. Eugene S. Kanindot, also an RQAT evaluator; and Engr. Dennis M. Encarnacion, Education Specialist II of CHED Regional Office IX.

Joining the evaluation online were representatives from the CHED Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD), namely Ms. Mely Mar T. Perez, Ms. Christia Ann Mae D. Garingan, and Mr. Rahjimer G. Mendoza. Also participating online were the CHED-ETEEAP Technical Panel, chaired by Dr. Benilda N. Villenas, with Dr. Alexander Franco A. Delantar as member.

In her welcome remarks, University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena emphasized that the evaluation goes beyond institutional compliance, providing WMSU with an opportunity to demonstrate its responsiveness to the evolving higher education landscape and the diverse learning needs of its stakeholders.

She highlighted that ETEEAP recognizes knowledge and competencies gained through professional experience, workplace engagement, independent learning, and other meaningful life experiences, enabling qualified individuals to pursue higher education and earn academic credentials.

Dr. Ochotorena also underscored the importance of micro-credential programs in promoting flexible and lifelong learning by equipping individuals with relevant skills and competencies that address changing industry and professional demands.

The seven academic programs evaluated were the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Criminology, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Bachelor of Science in Social Work.

The activity also featured presentations on the University’s institutional performance and milestones, leadership, ETEEAP initiatives, and micro-credential programs.

Following the technical discussions and evaluation proper, the Evaluation Team presented its initial findings and recommendations. The activity concluded with commitment-setting and the identification of next steps to further strengthen the implementation of both programs.

Through this evaluation, WMSU reaffirms its commitment to expanding inclusive access to higher education, recognizing diverse learning pathways, and ensuring the quality and relevance of its academic offerings. (MKMQuin, PAO)
