A leadership Training Seminar was conducted last February 10-11, 2006 with the theme: “The Filipino Youth Struggle: Re-Strengthening Yourth Participation by Reviving our Culture and Values,” sponsored by the College Student Board of WMSU College of Agriculture under the Advisorship of Prof. Ritzi I. Umacob.
Keynoting the Opening Ceremonies was Hon. Manuel Jose M. Dalipe, City Councilor of Zamboanga City. Dean Teresita A. Narvaez welcomed the participants. Councilor Dalipe encouraged the youth to be more participative in government affairs; that young people should lead to changes and should have good relationsihp with people. During the first day session, Miss Josephine Pareja, a Barangay Captain of Talisayan and San Ramon community was also the speaker on “Youth Participation.” In the afternoon, Isabeu Ritzi I. Umacob, a Regional Science High School student, spoke on the topic: “Student Empowerment: A Question of Responsibility.” Isabeu, a young leader, had been a representative to the local and national levels of Youth Congresses. Also invited as one of the speakers was Hon. Vice-Mayor Isabel “Beng” Climaco who spoke about “Commitment.” It was a very interesting session to student leaders even they committed themselves through volunteerism. To volunteer is a payback indeed for a return favor, Vice Mayor Climaco emphasized. The other speakers were: Mr. Andrew S. Galera and Mr. Raymond B. Domingo with their topics on the “5 C’s in Leadership” and “Youth in Nation Building,” respectively. (Prof. Jovita M.
