A SEMINAR to hasten social transformation through media advocacy of culture and the arts will be held jointly by the Western Mindanao State University and National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCAA) on September 26-27 in Zamboanga City.
In recent invitations sent to the region’s various media organizations, WMSU President Dr. Grace Rebollos said the conference will bring together media practitioners, academicians, public information officers, mass communication students and others involved in the sector “to enhance their roles in preserving, promoting and disseminating culture and arts in their respective communities.”
Presidential Assistant on Culture and NCCA Executive Director Cecile Guidote-Alvarez will keynote the opening program. Among the topics are “Cultural Research, Preservation and Promotion” by Dr. Aleli Quirante of the University of the Philippines; “Media, Culture and Arts” by Dr. Pa Diaz of UP; “Appreciation and Understanding of Mindanao Culture and Arts” by Prof. Pilar Bautista; “Cultural Tourism” by Dept of Tourism Regional OIC Bernard Gregorio; “Globalization, Media and Culture: by Dr. Victorio Sugbo of UP; “TV Coverage on Culture and Arts” by Cathy Santillan; “Community Awareness and Participation in Culture and Arts Preservation and Promotion” by Icelle Gloria Borja; and “LGU Initiatives, Programs and Agenda in Cultural Preservation and Promotion” by Zamboanga City Councilor Rogelio Valesco.
Venue is the Crystal Ballroom of Grand Astoria Hotel. A registration fee of P800 to cover seminar kit and food will be collected.
