Khenn Arquiza, a Political Science student of the Western Mindanao State University’s (WMSU) College of Liberal Arts was awarded as the Top 6 in the Search for the Ten Outstanding Political Science Students’ of the Philippines (TOPSSP)—one of the highest awards to be given to a Political Science student in the Philippines.
“I am so blessed to be awarded as the Top 6 among the 15 students who were qualified all coming from different prestigious institutions from all over the Philippines. Being the first winner of WMSU is the greatest legacy I can ever leave to my department, and I hope to see more WMSU Political Science Students stepping up to become shapers and builders of this nation. It was never my plan to apply for this award, but realizing that by applying is a way that I can give back to my department who has taught me a lot not just of what is written in the books but also what is out in the world at large,” said Arquiza.
TOPSSP is an annual search conducted during the Political Science Students Association of the Philippines (PSSAP) National Convention.
During the convention, the Top 15 students were required to participate in a whirlwind of activities that included evaluations from the Organizers, a pictorial, an Elocution Contest on the ASEAN Integration, and the main event was a Panel Interview with Dr. Benjamin Muego, Professorial Lecturer 5 of UP-Diliman, Former Under Secretary Leon Flores III of the National Youth Commission, and Dr. Gary Lapiz of the Cebu Normal University.
The awarding was the highlight of the solidarity night of the 7th PSSAP National Convention on February 15 at the Sarrosa International Hotel in Cebu.
Earlier this year, Arquiza was also recognized by the City Government of Zamboanga as one of the Five Outstanding Zamboangueño Young Leaders for 2015, along with three other students and alumnus from WMSU.
