WMSU  and OPAPRU Unite for Peace Education Forum, Advancing Harmony in Mindanao

In a momentous occasion of unity and shared commitment to peace, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) through the Peace and Human Security Institute collaborated with the Office of the President for Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU), organizing a Peace Education Forum as part of the Mindanao Week of Peace celebrations on December 4, 2023, held at the WMSU Gymnasium.

Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena expressed her gratitude for the collaborative effort and shared vision for peace, stating, “Education plays a pivotal role in shaping the minds of future generations. By fostering a culture of peace within our educational institutions, we contribute to the collective journey towards lasting harmony in Mindanao and beyond.”

The event brought together prominent figures in the pursuit of peace, with Solidarity Messages delivered by Fr. Guillrey Anthony M. Andal SJ, President of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University; PBGEN Bowenn Joey M. Masauding, Regional Director of PRO9; LTGEN William N. Gonzales PA, Commander of WESMINCOM; and Atty. Wendell Sotto, City Administrator, who represented City Mayor John Dalipe. OPAPRU Assistant Secretary Andres Aguinaldo, Jr. gave a Keynote Message on the Mindanao Peace Process’ Gains and Challenges.

As a significant highlight of the event, a Ribbon Cutting and Launching ceremony for the OPAPRU-WMSU Peace Education Resource Nook took place. This initiative signifies a tangible commitment to providing resources and materials that support peace education.

The Peace Education Forum at Western Mindanao State University stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of educational institutions, government offices, and the community at large to work together in building a peaceful and united region. (PAO-AAUS)
