Mission
The College of Home Economics is the lead provider of competent, holistic
and world class quality human resources imbued with industry driven lifelong
learning skills in the areas of Home Economics, Nutrition and Dietetics, Hospitality
Management.

Department of Home Economics
Goal

The Bachelor of Science in Home Economics aims to develop highly
competent Home Economist in the community, Home Economics Industries,
Entrepreneurship and in Academe.

Program Outcomes
A. Promote the role of Home Economics for well-being of the families in
relation to the needs, resources and potentials of its members in a changing
environment.
B. Demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitude adopting environment and
culture friendly technologies utilizing locally available resources in the
different areas of Home Economics.
C. Integrate Home Economics concerns and issues with local and national
developmental efforts.
D. Perform management skills in the implementation of projects and activities
within the different areas of Home Economics for individuals, groups and
institutions.
E. Engage in entrepreneurial activities in the different areas of Home
Economics for resource generation and sustainability.
F. Plan and implement economically-viable activity that covers practical
skills, smart consumerism, financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
G. Design and conduct a scientific study in Home Economics and related
topics in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary settings.
H. Act and demonstrate ethical standards of the profession.
I. Engage in lifelong learning activities.
J. Demonstrate basic and higher levels of thinking skills in planning, assessing
and reporting outcomes of educational and training processes.

Department of Nutrition and Dietetics
Goal
The Nutrition and Dietetics goal is to develop and produce professionals
with adequate knowledge, attitudes, values and skills imperative to promotion
and maintenance through optimum nutrition of individuals and groups.

Program Outcomes
a. Promote the role of nutrition & dietetics for human well-being in relation to
the needs, resources & potentials of individuals, groups & families.
b. Apply the concept of comprehensive nutritional care for the total wellness
of individuals in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural settings.
c. Integrate nutrition concerns with local and national development efforts.
d. Manage nutrition programs for individuals, groups and institutions.
e. Demonstrate the ability to plan and manage a foodservice unit in hospital
or other settings.
f. Plan and implement an economically viable activity related to nutrition
and dietetics.
g. Ability to design and/or conduct a scientific study on food, nutrition and
related topics.
h. Conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the ethical standards of
the profession.
i. Engage in lifelong learning activities.

Department of Hospitality Management
Goal

The WMSU – HM Department goal is to become a regional center of best
practices in food and beverage service and culinary excellence that embodies
global standard of quality on hospitality management, marketing and
operations.

Program Outcomes
a. To prepare, develop and produce students with knowledge and skills in
management, marketing, sales entrepreneurship and other business related
activities for students to be globally competitive.
b. To equip the students with culinary skills and to develop interests, creativity,
innovation and awareness to food safety and hygiene measures and contribute
to consumers’ health.
c. To orient and provide practical training on hospitality industry, travel and
tourism industry, food and beverage service industry and sports, gaming, and
entertainment industry.
d. To inculcate corporate values and business ethics in the campus and
workplace. To promote leadership, sense of urgency, commitment, and integrity.
e. To initiate/develop/utilize hospitality, travel and tourism-based research
projects.

College of Home Economics Graduate Studies
Goal

The College of Home Economics Masters’ Program goal is to develop well-
trained human potentials with research-minded orientation relative to the needs

of the specialized skills allied to teaching and health education. Thus, provide an
avenue for continuous learning relevant to the instructional paradigm in
education to be competent in the chosen field of career parallel to the trends
and demands of specialization.


Program Outcomes of The Master of Arts In Education Major Home Economics

A. Provide educational services as Home Economics Teachers that will lead to
the development of human potentials and intellectual formation parallel to the
trends in teaching and learning instructions.
B. Provide learning experiences in the deliberation of different issues and
problems that generates social transformation encountered in the teaching of
Home Economics.
C. Emphasize the importance of establishing a wholesome relationship and
sustainable development with the family, school, community and the society as
a whole.
D. Encourage the production, utilization, and dissemination of research output
in Home Economics within and beyond the region.

Program Outcomes of The Master of Arts In Education Major Nutrition And Health

Education

A. Strengthen the role of the school in the maintenance and promotion of
health through health education.
B. Recognize the role and responsibilities to be competent in teaching
nutrition and health education in the schools, hospitals, community and society.
C. Provides learning experiences in developing skills and attitudes of
community organizing and people’s empowerment through primary health care.
D. Demonstrate positive attitude in learning about new trends and other
development related to health.
