Western Mindanao State University marked a significant milestone with three culturally enriching events, setting a new standard for promoting heritage and creativity.

Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, the University President, expressed her immense joy at the culmination of these endeavors, signifying the institution’s commitment to fostering cultural appreciation.

The day commenced with the unveiling of a historical marker commemorating the Zamboanga Normal School Building, a poignant moment overseen by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, led by Commissioner Dr. Earl Jude Paul L. Cleope.

Following this momentous occasion, the University Museum proudly opened its doors with a grand ceremony, graced by the presence of CHED Commissioner Ronald L. Adamat, who led the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Among the esteemed guests were Ms. Rachel D. Casimero of CHED V, Ms. Edna Utrillo-Masauding, Councilor Vincent Paul Elago, and Mr. Champ Dalipe representing Hon. Mannix Dalipe, along with members of the WMSU community.

As the day progressed, the university showcased the vibrant creativity of local designers through the Costura de Oeste Mindanao fashion show, featuring stunning designs. City Councilor Vino Guingona, as the special guest of honor, underscored the significance of celebrating local talent and heritage. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena’s captivating participation on the runway, symbolizing the unity between academia and artistic expression.
