WMSU Celebrates Buwan ng Wika

The entire nation celebrates Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa from August 1-31, 2005 on the theme of “Wikang Filipino: Simbolo ng Kultura at Lahing Pilipino.” The celebration of Buwan ng Wika was declared by then President Fidel V. Ramos through Proclamation No. 1041 which states that the month of August is Buwan ng Wikang Filipino, it further states that branches of government, colleges, schools and universities will sponsor varied activities for the said occasion.

The Panrehiyong Sentro sa Wikang Filipino, R-09, based at WMSU spearheads the celebration for the Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa this year by sponsoring a city-wide contests namely:

1.Paligsahan sa Pag-awit – for students in the tertiary level and the contest was held last August 10, 2005 at the WMSU Social Hall.

2.Paligsahan sa Etnikong Sayaw at Pagtatalumpati – will be on August 20, 2005 at the WMSU Social Hall. This is open to all secondary students in Zamboanga City.

3.Paligsahan sa Masinig na Pagkukuwento – will be on August 31, 2005, WMSU Social Hall. This is open to all elementary pupils.

Dr. Marlene C. Ortega, Vice President for Academic Affairs of the Western Mindanao State University is behind all these activities with the support of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino and WMSU Administration, and the CLA Filipino Department Faculty.
