WMSU-CLA FORGES PARTNERSHIP WITH BARANGAY TALUKSANGAY

The Western Mindanao State University, in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts and Barangay Taluksangay officials recently sealed its partnership for its community extension services “Community, Literacy, and Advocacy Project” (CLAP) on July 22, 2023.
The partnership will involve activities catering to the Out-of-School-Youth (OSY) in Barangay Taluksangay such as language, numeracy, and socio-cultural literacies which will be handled by the various departments of the College of Liberal Arts.
The objective of this project is to develop and promote life-long learning skills among the OSY participants by improving literacy and communications skills, developing problem-solving skills, and enhancing interpersonal skills.
The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing was headed by the WMSU President, Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, together with the VP for RESEL, Dr. Joel G. Fernando, VP for Resource Generation, Dr. Fredelino M. San Juan, University Board Secretary, Prof. Al-Ghani D. Mohammad, CLA Dean Dr. Julieta B. Tendero, and CLA Extension Coordinator, Dr. Jiellzon Jaime T. Villarama, and the Extension project proponent, Dr. Melanie F. Lear together with other officials of the university were present.
Meanwhile, the barangay was also well-represented by Hon. Dato Abdurahman B. Nuno and family, SK representative, and barangay officials headed by Hon. Hannah M. Nuño.
Also present were the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) team headed by Dr. Stephen Acabado, Chair, Archaeology IDP, Professor of Anthropology, and Director, UCLA Center for Southeast Asian Studies with graduate and undergraduate students from the mentioned university.
Furthermore, it was also witnessed by Dr. Geraldine de Jesus, President of Sorsogon State University and Ms. Rachel Casimero, Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED Region V.
