WMSU In-House Review Conducted

The Agency In-House Review (AIHR) for on-going and completed research projects for calendar year 2009-2010 was organized by the Research Utilization, Production and Dissemination (RUPID) office and the Research Development and Evaluation Center (RDEC), Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Development (OVP-RED) Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) from June 2 to 3 at the WMSU, main campus, this city.

The review was grounded on the following premise to improve the presentation of papers for publication, to wit: situational analysis; policy recommendation; technology dissemination; and knowledge information to beneficiaries or clients of the various researchable areas for possible expansion, generation of new knowledge (clinical, basic, applied) on identified problem areas, as well as those that have impact on environment policies and support systems or educational programs.

This year’s AIHR covered 25 research papers under the following categories: individual papers for institutionally funded research; graduate and undergraduate.

The three referees selected the best papers reviewed in two categories. The best papers for the graduate category were: first – “Ethnicity and Epistemological Enhanced Instruction: Effects on Beliefs, Thinking Skills and Conceptual Understanding in Chemistry by Dr. Lourdes B. Filoteo; second – “The Non-Spanish Idiolect Composition of Chabacano in Contemporary Written Literature: A Content Analysis” by Dr. Estrella Paras Olaer; and two third placers – “Change Generating Sets” by Alex B. Zambales and “Transformational Leadership Behavior and Total Quality Management Practices of Middle Level Administrators in Higher Educational Institutions in Zamboanga City” by Dr. Sheevah Yahcob Saddalani.

At the undergraduate level, the best paper among those presented were: “Manufacturing Bleaching Reagent Using Onsite Chlorine Generator Through Salt Electrolysis” by Edade Roulette R. Topacio; second – “Pinoy Tabloids Pornography and Consumerism as Perceived by Consumers in Zamboanga City” by Ivan Eric Salvador and Mae Antonette Jumawan; third – “Over Nutrition and Nutritional Status Among Selected Elementary Students of the Integrated Laboratory School-WMSU, Zamboanga City: An Assessment” by Edison C. Ballaho, Jennelyn Sanguila, Jaqueline Aldanese and Maeann Romo.

Members of the panel of referees also served as editorial consultants and were selected on the basis of the nature of the papers submitted to RDEC for presentation. They were Dr. Lea U. Laput, a PhD. in mass communication, College of Liberal Arts; Dr. Jocelyn P. Pedroso, a PhD. in agriculture, College of Agriculture; Prof. Ardel S.
