WMSU Participates in SUC Fair 2023 at Iloilo City

The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Spearheaded by Dr. Ma. Carla Altea Ochotorena, University President, participated in the annual State Universities and Colleges (2023) Fair 2023, spearheaded by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) and hosted by the West Visayas State University (WVSU) from July 10 to 13, 2023, at SM City, Iloilo.
With this year’s theme “Navigating Global Landscape through Innovation, Cultural and Arts Preservation, and Higher Education Quality,” different schools all over the country showcased their best practices through different cultural presentations, Innovative researchers and inventions, and different initiatives to promote quality higher education.
Also, this year’s SUC Fair aimed to: Commemorate the anniversaries of CHED and the National Higher Education Day with all the SUCs in the country; highlight the current international context that challenges state universities and colleges to navigate successfully; showcase the role of SUCs as drivers of economic growth; celebrate the uniqueness of Filipino cultures and arts; and feature initiatives promoting higher education quality.
During the event, significant happenings and sessions took place. The first day started with an inspiring keynote speech by Hon. Juan Miguel F. Zubiri, the Senate President of the Republic of the Philippines. Following that, Atty. Marie Louise Araneta-Marcos, the First Lady of the Philippines, led a ribbon-cutting event for the innovation exhibit and demonstration. Moving on to the second day, there was a thought-provoking plenary talk about the Role of Education in Preserving Culture and Arts, presented by Victorino M. Manalo, Chairperson of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). This day also included Digital Arts and Song Writing competitions. The focus of the third day was a captivating plenary session on Innovations in World Class Higher Education, delivered by Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., the Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Additionally, there was an exciting Vlog Competition. The last day of the Fair will showcase EntrePinoy, a Youthprenuership Competition, and the Search for Mr. and Ms. SUC Fair 2023. The event also concluded with the announcement and honoring of champions for the various competitions. This will be followed by a CHED Night activity involving SUC Presidents.
WMSU together with Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences And Technology, Jose Rizal Memorial State University, Basilan State College and Josefina Herera Cerilles State College represented region 9.
The success of the SUC Fair 2023 was the result of collaborative efforts from students, Cultural Affairs Heads from different SUCs, Presidents, and their representatives who came together for the event.
