On April 4, 2025, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) welcomed delegates from Mindanao State University–General Santos City (MSU-Gensan) for a benchmarking activity that focused on the processes and best practices observed in instructional materials development.
Dr. Nursia M. Barjose, WMSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, expressed her gratitude to MSU-Gensan for selecting WMSU as a benchmarking partner. She underscored the university’s commitment to sharing invaluable and innovative approaches, best practices, and collaborative strategies for creating impactful learning tools.
To provide a comprehensive view of WMSU’s instructional materials development process, Associate Professor Divine Grace M. Marumas, University Coordinator for Instructional Support and Materials Production, and Dr. Berhana I. Flores, Chief of Staff of the Office of the President, jointly presented the university’s strategies. They detailed the steps involved in planning, content creation, peer review, printing, and distribution. In addition, they highlighted the challenges encountered, particularly in aligning materials with evolving curriculum standards and diverse student needs.
In response, Dr. Mishell D. Lawas, MSU-Gensan Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, conveyed her appreciation to WMSU for the opportunity to gain insights from their institutional practices. She stressed the importance of documenting effective strategies and conveyed optimism that this engagement would pave the way for stronger collaboration between the two universities—especially in the continuous improvement and innovation of instructional materials.
