Western Mindanao State University held WMSU Night on October 1 at Savores, Veterans Avenue, as part of the university’s participation in Fiesta Hermosa 2026.
The event brought together WMSU officials and personnel, local government officials, guests, visitors, and members of the community for an evening highlighting Zamboanga’s music, culture, and arts.
In her welcome message, WMSU President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena emphasized the significance of Fiesta Hermosa as a celebration of Zamboanga’s culture, heritage, and identity.
“Tonight, we gather not simply to open a festival, but to celebrate who we are as Zamboangueños—our culture, our heritage, our memories, our flavors, and most especially, our music and our passion for the arts,” Dr. Ochotorena said.
She said the celebration brings together the city’s diverse communities and reinforces a shared sense of identity and belonging.
“It is a celebration that brings together our diverse communities and reminds us that despite our differences, we share one home, one heritage, and one beautiful Zamboanga,” she added.
Dr. Ochotorena also highlighted WMSU’s participation in the festivities, noting the university’s opportunity to showcase the talents of the Zamboangueño community.
“Tonight, Western Mindanao State University takes center stage to showcase the incredible talents of the Zamboangueño community,” she said.
She likewise encouraged the audience to take part in the celebration and enjoy the performances prepared for the occasion.
Through WMSU Night, the university strengthened its participation in Fiesta Hermosa 2026 while providing a platform for local talent and cultural expression.
The celebration further reflected WMSU’s continuing commitment to promoting Zamboanga’s cultural heritage and fostering stronger connections between the university and the wider community. (MKMQ, PAO)
