WMSU President Dr. Ochotorena, Dr. Obra Receive Prestigious Quality Excellence Awards

Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) marked another milestone as University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena received the Juran Medal for Senior Executives, while Dr. Mario R. Obra Jr. was named 2026 Quality Manager of the Year by the Philippine Society for Quality (PSQ).

The recognitions highlight their leadership and contributions to advancing quality management, institutional excellence, and continuous improvement at WMSU.

In her acceptance speech, Dr. Ochotorena expressed her gratitude and humility, emphasizing that the award reflects the collective efforts of the WMSU community.

β€œI therefore receive this medal not as a measure of my accomplishments in comparison with others, but as a profound honor and an affirmation of the work we have been doing together at Western Mindanao State University,” she said.

She further stressed that quality becomes meaningful when people embrace it, take ownership of it, and integrate it into their daily responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Dr. Obra, WMSU’s Quality Management Office Director, expressed his appreciation to PSQ and acknowledged Dr. Ochotorena’s leadership in strengthening the University’s quality management practices.

β€œThank you, President Ochotorena, for providing the vision, support, and leadership space that enabled us to advocate for total quality management and embed continuous improvement into the core of our institution,” Dr. Obra said.

The dual recognition underscores WMSU’s commitment to fostering a culture of quality, strengthening institutional governance, and delivering excellent educational services to its stakeholders. (AAS, PAO)
