Eight gold and four silver medallions were brought home by the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Judo Team as they have been declared the overall champion in the 1st Iloilo National Invitational Judo Tournament last November 14, 2010.
With this impressive performance, the team was tapped by the Philippine Judo Federation to represent the country in the forthcoming Hong Kong International Invitational Judo Tournament set on May 4 to 6, 2011.
Five of the best male players and two officials were selected to join other players from the National Capital Region (NCR) to compete in said international tournament.
Meanwhile, the following WMSU players won in the different categories under the Men’s Division, to wit: Open Belt Category -55kgs, Alvin Mendoza (Gold) and Daniel Barrios (Silver); -60kgs, Frederick Tormon (Gold) and Kastner Indanan (Silver); -66kgs, John Ramon Quin (Gold); -81 kgs, Tracy Agramon; All White Category -73kgs, Mark Lumanda (Gold) and Jaymar Gonzales (Silver).
On the other hand, four excelled in the Women’s Division, to wit: Open Belt Category
-45/-48 kgs Charmis Gabompa (Gold); -52/-57/-70 kgs Leila Ann Tuazon (Gold) and Rica Angela Trumata (Silver). There is also one winner in the Kid’s Division at -55kgs, Fredner Tormon (Gold).
The said competition was attended by the Delegation Head Dr. Ricardo Danilo E. Corteza, formerly the Dean of the College of Physical Education, Recreation, and Sports. The members of the WMSU Judo Team are being trained by Mr. Alamjavier Indanan. (Almar E. Villanueva, PAO-WMSU)
