Native Animals Fair 2022

Native animals are an integral part of the agricultural industry in the Philippines. From being a source of meat for the Filipino households, it became a source of livelihood for the rural farmers and provided socio-cultural and economic services. The DOST-PCAARRD continuously invests resources in the native animals in the Philippines namely, native chicken and native pig, and ItikPINAS. The agency has collaborated with private sectors and academes to conduct research and development activities. Over the years, these efforts led to the creation of different R&D outputs and technologies. One of the outputs highlights the week-long Native Animals Fair on April 25-29, 2022, spearheaded by the Western Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMAARRDEC) as the lead agency, together with co-implementing agencies, Marinduque State College (MSC), Mindoro State University (MinSU), Western Visayas State University (WVSU). Along with theses academes are its cooperating agencies, Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), Caraga State University (CarSU), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Eastern Samar State University (ESSU), J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC), Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU). Likewise, the said event will set an avenue for the researchers and technology adopters to showcase, promote, and disseminate the said technologies and other outputs of R&D on native chicken and pig, and ItikPINAS. Different activities were lined up such as the virtual presser with media practitioners, technology fora, virtual farm tours, book launch, meat processing, semen processing, AI demonstrations, cooking of specialty dishes, and live virtual selling of native animal breeds. Among the participants of this event are farmers, representatives from the business sector, LGUs, members of CMIs, and the media. (WESMAARRDEC)
