WESMAARRDEC Strengthens Collaboration with Mindanao Consortia through SciComustahan Project

From June 9 to 11, 2025, the Western Mindanao State University – Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMAARRDEC) conducted the first leg of its on-site visits to Mindanao through a coordination mission to two regional partner consortia: the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (NOMCAARRD) and the Caraga Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (CCAARRD).

The visit was part of the ongoing preparations for upcoming episodes of the SciComustahan Project, a science communication initiative that uses a television, radio, and Facebook Live talk show format to disseminate timely, relevant, and research-based information on agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) technologies. The project seeks to bring research outputs closer to stakeholders by making technical knowledge more accessible and understandable to the general public.

The coordination meetings were led by Ms. Kimberly Joy Kilat, Science Communication Cluster Coordinator and project leader, who facilitated discussions with both NOMCAARRD and CCAARRD. The sessions focused on sharing communication strategies, identifying feature stories for upcoming episodes, and reinforcing collaborative efforts across Mindanao.

SciComustahan serves as a platform for translating research into relatable, real-world applications through engaging conversations with scientists, experts, and community representatives. It also aims to foster greater public appreciation for research and innovation in the AANR sectors.

New episodes of SciComustahan air every Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 PM via E-Media and are available on Facebook, radio, and television. (Aziz S)
