Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), specifically the External Studies Unit-Diplhan Campus, marked a significant milestone on July 26, 2023, as it received a brand-new five-classroom building valued at Php 10,000,000. This achievement was made possible through the unwavering support of the local government of the municipality, Deputy Majority Leader Atty. Wilter Yap Palma, who also serves as the Congressman of the 1st District Province of Zamboanga.
In a heartwarming gesture, Congressman Palma expressed his gratitude to WMSU President, Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, for her invaluable support to the Diplahan campus. He further committed to seeking additional funding to further upgrade and enhance the facilities within the campus, underlining his commitment to the institution’s growth.
Atty. Eric Yap, the Municipal Mayor of Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay, announced a generous donation of Php 800,000 worth of school furniture and equipment, in addition to a newly constructed canteen for the campus. Furthermore, an exciting project is underway – the construction of a covered court at ESU Diplahan Campus.
Dr. Ochotorena, in her remarks, expressed deep gratitude to the local government of Sibugay and shared her hope that the Diplahan Campus would soon offer a diverse range of courses, including BS Nursing, BS Engineering, and BS Criminology. She reiterated the strong commitment of both herself and the entire WMSU community to providing quality tertiary education even in far-flung areas.
The warm welcome address was delivered by Dr. Byron B. Go Silk, the Dean of External Studies, who extended heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to making this remarkable event a reality. This joyous occasion was graced by esteemed guests, including Board Member Marie Yvonne V. Palma and representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways.
