The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Integrated Laboratory School Elementary Department proudly showcased its journalistic prowess at the National Campus Media Conference held from September 18-20, 2024 in Tagaytay City, Cavite Province, Philippines. Themed “Championing Accountability Campus Journalism for a Positive Societal Impact through Expanding and Venturing the Digital Horizon,” the conference gathered over 900 campus journalists from 61 educational institutions across the Philippines.
WMSU’s delegation achieved remarkable success, with students excelling in various categories. Rielle Maxeem H. Alavar took home awards in News Writing (English) and Pautakang Pampahayagan. Nadiyah A. Jailani earned accolades in News Writing (Filipino), while Ian Cedric C. Lagonera triumphed in both Editorial Writing (English) and Pautakang Pampahayagan. Yashreen Ynna J. Asiri shone in Editorial Writing (Filipino) and Visual JournalismโReels Feature (Filipino), and Jannah Mae S. Sabdani excelled in Visual JournalismโReels Feature (English). Aiman T. Buroy also secured recognition in Pautakang Pampahayagan.
The students benefited from the expert guidance of their coaches, Dr. Arvin B. Casimiro and Ms. Jezza Mae T. Francisco, whose support played a crucial role in their achievements. The entire team expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, WMSU President, for her unwavering belief in their potential.
Special thanks were extended to key university officials, including Dr. Nursia M. Barjose (Vice President for Academic Affairs), Dr. Ricardo A. Somblingo (Dean, College of Teacher Education), Dr. Anna Louisa R. Perez (Principal), and Dr. Carl C. Richard C. Dagalea, along with the GPTA officers, for their continuous support and encouragement.
The conference not only highlighted the talents of young journalists but also emphasized the importance of accountability in journalism, fostering a positive societal impact in the digital age.
