Western Mindanao State University Invests First Batch of Senior Scouts

The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Integrated Laboratory School (ILS) High School Department successfully held its inaugural Investiture Ceremony for Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Senior Scouts on September 26, 2024, at the Dr. Juanito A. Bruno Gymnasium.

Dr. Ma. Nora D. Lai, a distinguished Wood Badge Holder, welcomed the BSP officials, WMSU administrators, faculty-outfit advisers, scouts, parents, and guests. In her opening remarks, she emphasized the significance of the investiture ceremony and the valuable lessons that the scouts would gain from their succeeding BSP activities.

Dr. Victor A. Liozo, Jr., a former Executive Board Chairman and President of the High School GPTA, expressed his deep gratitude to the University President for approving the revival of the BSP in the ILS High School Department. He expressed confidence that this initiative would significantly benefit the students’ development as future leaders of the city.

Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, WMSU President and a member of the BSP Local Council Executive Board, through her Chief of Staff, Dr. Berhana I. Flores, conveyed her strong support for the BSP’s ideals within the university. She highlighted the positive values that the scouts would acquire, shaping their future endeavors. This investiture ceremony for Senior Scouts is a manifestation of Dr. Ochotorena’s advocacy of prioritizing the best interest of students.

Atty. Jose Rizalino L. Ortega, the honored guest speaker, delivered an inspiring message to both the senior scouts and their parents. He encouraged them to fully develop the potential of the high school students for the betterment of the country. Atty Ortega is the Council Chairperson/BSP National Executive Board Member/VP for Mindanao.

A significant highlight of this student affairs event was the investiture where the parents donned neckerchiefs on their children, symbolizing their acceptance into the Scout Movement. This crucial aspect of the ceremony underscored the senior scouts’ commitment and readiness to embrace the challenges presented by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

In closing, Dr. Riah R. Barcelona, ILS HS Principal, recognized the dedication of the faculty and the support of the parents, as well as the BSP Zamboanga Chapter, to make this important stage in scouting possible.

This productive event marked the beginning of a journey towards the continued development of future leaders, bearing in their minds the 12 points of Scouts Law and the Senior Scout Code.
