Factors Influencing Exclusive Breastfeeding Practices Among Mothers in Selected Areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula

Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), under the visionary leadership of University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, and the Department of Science and Technology IX – Zamboanga Consortium for Health Research and Development (ZCHRD), represented by Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operation Services Mr. Ricardo J. Apolinario III, officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on September 23, 2024.

The agreement secures funding for a vital research project titled โ€œFactors Influencing Exclusive Breastfeeding Practices Among Mothers in Selected Areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula,โ€ led by Dr. Melanie F. Lear of WMSU. This groundbreaking study aims to explore and enhance breastfeeding behaviors among mothers, shedding light on the knowledge, attitudes, and practices surrounding exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) in the region. By identifying key predictors, the research seeks to reduce infant morbidity and mortality, ultimately promoting healthier communities across the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Also present during the MOA signing were ZCHRD personnel Marielle A. Mandac, Project Technical Specialist 1; Mr. Jeron A. Elloran, Project Administrative Assistant I; and WMSU College of Nursing faculty Dr. Emelie J. Tan and Ms Juvie B. Toribio, project team members.
