On January 14, 2025, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), led by University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with West Metro Medical Center. This partnership introduces a research grant program for students of the WMSU College of Medicine.
Dr. Ochotorena shared her excitement about the collaboration, noting that both WMSU and West Metro share a commitment to developing medical students into skilled researchers. She also expressed interest in exploring more programs with WMMC to further benefit the university’s medical and nursing students.
Mr. Joseph Michael D. Nepomuceno, Chief Executive Officer of West Metro, highlighted the healthcare challenges in the region. He explained that the research grant program aims to address these gaps by promoting community-driven solutions.
Dr. Mohammad Khasim I. Abdumajid, Dean of the College of Medicine, thanked WMMC for their support. He said this partnership reflects a shared goal of improving healthcare services and outcomes in the Zamboanga Peninsula and nearby Bangsamoro provinces.
The event was attended by doctors from West Metro, faculty members of the College of Medicine, and other representatives from the WMSU community.
