WMSU Nursing Students Simulate Mass Casualty Incident in High-Intensity Disaster Drill

From April 20 to 22, 2025, Level IV Nursing students from the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) College of Nursing (CN) conducted a high-intensity Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) simulation at the WMSU Open Field as part of their Disaster Nursing course.

The large-scale simulation immersed students in realistic emergency response scenarios, allowing them to take on critical roles as triage officers, emergency responders, and trauma care nurses. Demonstrating both competence and urgency, the students assessed mock victims, applied the START (Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment) system, and administered immediate, life-saving interventions.

In a remarkable display of teamwork, focus, and clinical judgment, the students transformed the open field into a dynamic emergency zone. Amid simulated chaos, they made split-second decisions, coordinated rescue and medical efforts, and showcased their ability to perform under pressureโ€”skills essential for responding to real-world disasters.

This hands-on exercise not only tested their theoretical knowledge but also strengthened their confidence and preparedness in crisis management, highlighting the College of Nursingโ€™s commitment to experiential learning and disaster readiness.
