Western Mindanao State University – Integrated Laboratory School Commemorates 10th Moving-Up Ceremony with a Celebration of Excellence and Purpose

Bright smiles lit up the faces of Junior High School students from the Western Mindanao State University Integrated Laboratory School (WMSU-ILS) as they proudly received their completion certificates during the school’s 10th Moving-Up Ceremony. With the theme “WMSU Completers 2025: Nurturing Excellence, Championing Peace, and Advancing Global Progress,” the event was not just a milestone; it was a heartfelt celebration of resilience, transformation, and hope.

Among those who took the stage was Alghamdi Kian J. Sabbi, a Junior High School student who welcomed his fellow students, teachers, and proud parents with words that resonated deeply. Recalling how their previous ceremonies took place online, Sabbi reflected, “Four years ago, we celebrated on screen. It was memorable, but being here in person, feeling the warmth, hearing the cheers, and seeing the smiles. This is something I’ll carry in my heart for as long as I live.”

He did not forget to honor those who stood behind their success. “To our parents and families, thank you for being our constant source of love and support,” he said. With a touch of playful wisdom, he added, “When life gives us tangerines, we feel that we can always find our way back home.”

The atmosphere turned even more meaningful as WMSU President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena officially confirmed the batch of completers. Then came the inspiring message from Guest Speaker Dr. Chesylyn H. Coronel, who encouraged the students to see this ceremony not just as an academic transition but as a celebration of who they have become and who they are becoming.

“This moment is about growth, potential, and purpose,” Dr. Coronel emphasized. “Excellence is not a one-time act; it is a habit, something you build every day with humility.” She urged the students to live by compassion and courage: “Choose to be kind. Be peacemakers. Be listeners. Be bridge-builders and voices of reason.”

As her speech ended, she reminded everyone that the journey does not end here. “This is proof that you have come this far and a promise that you can go even further. Keep asking questions, keep standing up for what is right, and never stop believing that you can make a difference. Because you are the future.”

Indeed, the WMSU-ILS Moving-Up Ceremony was more than a rite of passage; it was a joyful affirmation that these young learners are ready to take on the world, not just with knowledge but with kindness, courage, and purpose. (A Salim-PAO)
