Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) is delighted with the filing of House Bill No. 5531 seeking to establish a College of Veterinary Medicine at WMSU, in accordance with the provisions of Republic Act No. 9268, otherwise known as the Philippine Veterinary Medicine Act of 2004. The bill was filed by Hon. Katrina Reiko Chua-Tai, 1st District Representative of Zamboanga City.
University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena expressed deep appreciation and joy over this development, noting that it fulfills one of the Universityโs long-cherished visions to expand its academic portfolio in the field of animal health and agricultural development.
The College of Agriculture, under the leadership of Dean Dr. Elderico P. Tabal, has consistently advocated for the establishment of this program to address the growing need for veterinary professionals in the region.
