18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children

The Western Mindanao State University–Gender Research and Resource Center (WMSU-GRRC) officially kicked off this year’s 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children. The campaign runs from November 26 to December 12, 2025, carrying the theme “United for a VAW-Free Philippines.”

Representing WMSU President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Nursia M. Barjose emphasized that the campaign is a powerful reminder that the fight against violence is far from over.

“As students, your voice is powerful,” she said. “You belong to a generation that knows how to speak up—call out abusive behavior, whether online or in person, and support friends who may be hurting.”

Assistant Director Dr. Elmer M. Labad formally opened the observance, underscoring unity and compassion as the university begins its participation in the national campaign.

“We gather as one WMSU community to open our observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children. Stand with courage and speak with compassion in the fight against VAWC,” he shared.

Led by GRRC Director Dr. Mariam Z. Julkarnain, the office has prepared a series of activities throughout the 18-day campaign. These initiatives including quiz bowls, trainings, and awareness sessions reflect the university’s strong commitment to advocacy, education, and community engagement on Gender and Development and eliminating VAWC.
