The Western Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMAARRDEC), hosted by Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) for 26 years now, earned national recognition after its audio-visual presentation of the Philippine national anthem โ€œLupang Hinirangโ€ won 1st Place during the 2025 DOST-PCAARRD and Regional Consortia Joint Celebration of the Consortia Systemโ€™s Golden Anniversary, held on January 30, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Pasay City.

The award highlighted WESMAARRDECโ€™s creativity, teamwork, and strong sense of national pride, as the consortium joined regional partners across the country in commemorating 50 years of the Consortia System.

In the same celebration, WESMAARRDEC also marked its Ruby Milestone after receiving recognition from the Department of Science and Technology, Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD). The award was proudly received by Dr. Leonilo B. Abella, Consortium Director, and Dr. Teresita A. Narvaez, WESMAARRDEC Consultant.

Also recognized during the program was Ms. Angelie G. Magallanes, who received a Plaque of Appreciation from DOST-PCAARRD for her more than 10 years of dedicated service to WESMAARRDEC. Her commitment reflects the strong workforce behind the consortiumโ€™s sustained accomplishments and partnerships through the years.

On February 2, WESMAARRDEC paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, University President and Regional Research and Development Coordinating Council (RRDCC) Chairperson, to formally present the plaques of recognition.

WESMAARRDEC continues to uphold its mission of advancing research and development initiatives in agriculture, aquatic resources, and natural resources, while proudly representing Zambasulta in national platforms. (LMP, PAO)
